Empowering Research Through AI Tools
Time
Organizer: PD Dr Johan Rochel, specialist in AI ethics and law

Researchers engaged in international research partnerships are invited to participate in an introductory workshop on the use of AI tools in research contexts. AI tools can support a range of activities—from literature review and translation to drafting proposals and facilitating communication. Yet many researchers are still navigating how to integrate these tools meaningfully and efficiently into their workflows.
This introductory workshop offers a space for hands-on exchange around the use of general-purpose AI tools in research. With a focus on practical use cases and peer learning, the session will explore how AI can complement human expertise and strengthen collaboration across disciplines.
We will discuss:
- Showcase some AI tools for literature research, summarizing, and organizing sources
- Use of tools such as ChatGPT for research
- Ethical challenges of using AI tools in research contexts
- Participants' own experiences, use cases, and questions regarding AI in research settings
Format:
- Opening Input (5 min): Introduction to AI tools in global research contexts
- Showcase (20 min): Short presentations of specific AI use cases
- Ethical Challenges (20 min): Overview of the main ethical challenges
- Interactive Exchange (45 min): Open discussion where participants share experiences and explore practical challenges and ideas for responsible use
The workshop is organized and moderated by PD Dr Johan Rochel, specialist in AI ethics and law.
